There’s been a lot of anger about Google killing websites and industries in the wake of the March 2024 core update. Among those is HouseFresh, an independent review site that lost 91% of its traffic.

It won’t make anyone feel better, but people have been complaining about Google putting them out of business for more than 20 years. And I know it’s not the most popular opinion, but Google owes you nothing – not traffic, rankings or a living. If you rely almost entirely on Google organic traffic, maybe it’s not Google you should be mad at.

BTW: Many of you have been asking for an update about the suspect search market share data StatCounter released showing a surprising decrease for Google and equally surprising increases for Microsoft Bing and Yahoo. I’m still waiting for a response as of this writing. Stay tuned.
